Rehabilitaton, Future Planning and High School Upgrading

The Education Centre offers an accredited special education program by qualified teaching staff who are treatment team members of the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program. Clients are offered educational rehabilitation using today’s technology including communication software and devices, online training, and skill-building programs designed to address functional rehabilitation. We also serve other clients (prioritizing those under age 20) within the CCMHBI with mental health or concurrent disorders. 

 

 

Individualized Programming

 

Individualized programs based on test results and ongoing informal probes with tracking of progress on client goals. Programs may be offered both individually or in groups. Program emphasis is on functional cognitive rehabilitation that addresses the areas of: 

Reading and Writing 
Mathematics 
Memory and Attention 
Executive Functioning 
Accessibility and Tech Training 
Job Skills and Safety 
High School Credit Courses 
Distance and Post-Secondary Education

The Education Centre is equipped with assistive technology and specialized software to increase technological skills. Such devices may include:

Group Sessions

Current Events Group—Presentation and discussion of local and international news events.


TED Talks—Motivational and informational video topics discussion group.


Education Groups—Cognitive stimulation and conversational games.

 
Scripted and Choral Reading Groups—Oral reading & verbal communication stimulation.

 
Literature Circle—Reading and discussion on a chosen book/novel to build perspective and reading comprehension skills.

 
Pencraft—Fine motor development, relaxation, and socialization while engaging in coloring or drawing skills.
